St. Gervais Cathedral is a jewel on the Right Bank. It is a short walk from our apartment, and from a great cafe that fed us well.  This place has sculptures that inspire, stained glass that mystifies and a couple of organs, well I can't say enough about nice organs near the Marais.  Any picture that shows candle tapers is of a candle that I lit for a lot of folks. it is on the far left in a couple of pictures.  I believe in a whole lot of things and I believe that these cathedrals are beautiful and help put one back in touch with things that we wish to ignore in the daily hectic race to get ahead or just survive.  These buildings have survived for centuries because some other people believed in something more than their daily bread and that asshole supervisor that you swear you will put a fist through his door the next time he claims your idea and chews you out for his screw-up.

They remind you of faith in things that have no reason to inspire faith other than how they touch you.   Better to light one candle than curse the darkness.  I swear my eyes are more open having Aljazeera International television news pumped into my life and a melting pot of people on every street that we walk down.

So many people so different from each other.  But they all seem to want the same thing.  A chance to live safely with their family in their home that they have paid for with the wages from their work.  They want their daily bread, and Paris is a great place to get it.  They want to worship God in the way that their ancestors did.  They want their children to live a little better than they did.  And when the day is done, and they have some time to themselves, they do whatever it is that enriches their life.  Paint, write, make love, watch television, read, talk with friends over a glass of refreshment.  Seems pretty typical to me!  Some of them even take their dogs for a walk, but rarely do they scoop in this city.  In time,   All things in time.  Their cars are more efficient here, but they do watch their step.
