| Today was LAID BACK. If you consider
getting up at 6:00am and going for bread and croissants LAID BACK. We
did stop around the corner at the Deportation Memorial. A monument
dedicated to the memory of the 200,000 people deported from France to the
German concentration camps during the second world war. Along with
gypsies, gays and Jews, they also carted off the Jehovah Witnesses. We
also stopped at a couple of our favorite churches. By the way...
boulangeries, bakeries, DO NOT OPEN until 7am. We got a lot of
household shopping done. We know where to go to get the right
accessories for the kitchen and bath. After a long dinner, we stopped
at a book/cd/record/dvd store. We picked up a copy of The Stand on DVD
to watch on the laptop when news just gets too repetitive. Back to the Memorial that we have pictures of. You have to walk down a very narrow stair case to get there. The architect knew the effect that was going to be achieved. The apparent Bright Spot is DSC03175.jpg , but it is NOT. The 200,000 crystals that light and line the walls represent each soul that was stolen. . It was a tad sobering, but we remedied that quickly. I have to say that T-Mobile did some excellent customer service after dropping the ball. I changed to them from Verizon for the convenience of INTERNATIONAL cell phone access. They totally forgot to activate the International feature. They corrected it in a few minutes when I reached them. Tomorrow, Meg and Ron arrive. Foreign television is indeed FOREIGN! Where is the Weather Channel? The only sane network is Aljazeera...go figure! It is great to be in familiar areas. Marsha added to our collection of cats with an aluminum sculpture from a 'street artist' last night. We were walking by a group standing around a guy and a guitar. He was tuning... and tuning, and I wished that he was not hoping to earn a few centimes for that exercise. He then started playing the chords to Hotel California. When he hit the chorus, the whole street corner had joined him. I almost called David. There is a weird ritual about calling each other in a chemically altered state and sharing our vacation. The effect is best when the person at home is stuck in drudgery. |
