It is 5:00am
and I can't sleep. So I wandered down to the lobby to do
the work on today's page. Strange ways we occupy our time.
I was afraid that Paris would not be everything that a 20
year old man would remember ...some 30 years later as life
starts to turn a little brisk in the evening and some
colors are added to the leaves of our lives.
It is more. This time I am here with my wife. She speaks
no French, but that doesn't stop her from trying to be
understood....and trying to understand. We saw the
Cathedral Notre Dame after wine at a cafe on St. Michel
and before dinner. It is magnificent!
We bought dirty French Post Cards. We went to dinner, we
drank more wine, and ate the wonderful surprises that they
brought us.
She is still sleeping, I am not. She also got a good nap
in the afternoon, as did I. The taxi ride from the airport
was a study in snail's pace traffic and some petty larceny
or simple stupidity, oh...and the kindness of strangers.
Me and Blanche DuBois, still sleeping, will always rely on
the kindness of strangers and hope that we can
reciprocate.
A wonderful first day, and so much more than I could have
expected. Being in Paris in the spring time with someone
that you love is the closest thing to heaven, and we have
only just started the trip.
